About Me

My Photo
The idea for COLOR BRIDGES came from many sources. Portland State College 1962,Professor Frederick Heidel's first painting assignment was to make a grid and explore mixing colors to arrange on the grid to see how they would look. Moving these painted pieces of paper on different backgrounds bring back 4 years of studying painting with Heidel. Each arrangement I have made are like his assignments. They have a goal of basics while allowing the emotions freedom. Another source was Professor Mary MacIntire at Western Washington University who was a member of Fiber Design and I had the honor of photographing for a statement about her process. She used to move around pieces of colored paper to design her fiber works.

Abstracts reacting to one another

Oil paint often is immitated with acrylic so it is difficult to tell one from the other. I have thought that my acrylics looked like oil because I started painting with oil in the 60's. After years of acrylic painting, I see big diffeences in how I proceed in applying the paint.Posted by Picasa

Before my changes

I am not sure going back into the painting that was good was necessary but I sure like the way the two go together after the changes.

Acrylic painting from nature

Today these paintings looked unfinished until I made some changes. I think they go together as a pair. These are acrylic and done in a very dry evaporative atmosphere. Both days I painted on them in the afternoon sun.

Painting at the Oregon Coast

The fog is lingering today but this afternoon it should rise with the breeze and change of tide.
