Essence of Breeze and Apple Blossoms

This is my final abstraction of the apple blossoms and blue bird series. "Essence of Breeze in Apple Blossoms" is acrylic on cradled wood board 6" x 8." For sale $120 plus postage. The peak of the blossoms are almost over and my husband is logging so I want to add to the series on the life cycle of trees.
In answer to the question - "Is a painting just a blurred photograph. I would say not today because a photograph is reproduced with small dots of ink while a painting is produced by the brush stroke. In my case the brush strokes try to be paint like and not reproduce a photographic image.

Blue birds in flight make a magnificent iridescent blue streak. They often perch in our blossoming apple tree and when they see a bug in the freshly tiled earth, they fly down. The next painting will be an essence abstracted from the "Apple Blossoms, Fresh Tiled Dirt, and Blue Birds." My husband is also enjoying the day driving tractor to haul the cut trees to the fence where Fish and Wild Life can pick up the trees for a lake enhancement program with the goal of making an ideal spawning grounds.

While my husband mowed the fields, I painted a bluebird watching and waiting. Today the hawk was gone and the bluebirds were out feeding. There was much going on at home. Airing out the motor coach, bookkeeping, volunteer work. With so much happening at home, I wonder when we will think about our next RVing trip.

The weather was so nice this afternoon, I enjoyed painting outdoors. I can feel the spring day as I painted. There were many birds including a hawk in the woods near by. I did not see the blue birds who were very defensive of their bird house just a week ago. The hawk circled about with a twig.

Inspirations Today

I am enjoying the texture of real oil paint. I took this picture at 6:45 PM when the sun was getting low in the sky picking up the texture. I love oil paint texture even though there are times I can not tell the difference between oil and acrylic in other painters' works. But when I am working oil the textural buttery quality is an entirely different experience from painting with convenient acrylics.

This morning at 7:30 AM I saw clouds with tree dragons and the moon was like the pearl often pictured with Chinese Dragons.

Sunset Blue Blue Birds

Here I can not tell you how many times I have painted over this one begun on the banks of a stream in Glacier National Park four years ago. It was once totally abstract with glitter to add texture and sparkle. After showing it around I became tired of it. The glitter is now covered. I am enjoying the texture and running my color saturated brush over it. The acrylic painting is on hard board (Masonite) and is 16" x 20".

Fledgling

The blue bird house is quiet. But I saw one this morning when the moon was still high. The fledgling no doubt took a dip in the ditch and was shaking the water off before it flew off.

Three Feeding Four Blue Bird Chicks

It is good to back to acrylic painting on a 1 5/8" deep 7" x 5" masonite box for sale $100. Today I painted outdoors looking towards our blue bird house where three adults are feeding four chicks. In the distance I hear the builders working on the new house on our old pasture. They play energetic songs in Spanish as though it were still Cinco de Mayo. Soon the builder will cut one of the lower limbs of the climbing tree and he is giving it to us for wood.

These are memory paintings because today is cold and I do not see the blue birds. I wonder where they go. My husband cleaned and renovated the blue bird houses. They all have hinged doors so the chicks can be banded. So I am hoping they will nest in our houses this year.

My paintings are a type of diary without words.

Again one of the male blue birds was pecking at our pick up mirror. The mirror is smeared so the image is nolonger clear. The bird could be hurt from flying into the mirror repeatedly. We are going to cover the mirrors when we are not driving.

This series of blue birds maybe continued after doing some of other birds we have been observing like Tundra Swan.

For the past week I saw a blue bird three some frolicking about the house. Two males and a female. Perhaps one of the males was from last year's hatch. Then in the morning the males took to taking turns flying up to the pickup side mirrors viewing themselves. I don't know what to make of the behavior. They left a whitish residue of body fluids on the mirrors.

I enjoy the chunky three dimensional surfaces of the small box for expressing freedom. I am playing with doing a close up intimate painting of the bird opening up wings and stepping out. The bird is larger than life and the bird's volume is larger than the front surface. To see the whole one must view the sides and bottom. Framing a close up like this could give the impression of a trapped bird.

Today in our back yard the bluebirds are guarding their bird house chasing sparrows away. In this painting I became more comfortable piling on the paint thicker than I used to. "Blue Bird" was fun to paint. I was not trying to be a nature artist. I was going for feeling not knowing at all what kind of image would emerge. For awhile the paintifng was of a blue bird. The blue bird was covered and then it emerged again. My process is more of a journey setting up one accident after another. Some of these accidents are based on other paintings that I have been doing. Most of the time I obliverate the accidents until I arrive at a satisfying result.

Borrowing not Plagiarizing

This painting has taken on new meaning in 2008 when I started seeing hidden dragons in my picutes. It is one of the paintifngs in my february 2008 exhibit, "Dragons Boogie Woogie" at the Keizer art Association's Enid Joy Mount gallery in Keizer, Oregon.
Giving some thought to my entry way to the dinning room and the grouping of paintings around this portal, I want it to make my heart feel closer to nature. And I want more, an invitation for me to look and keep on looking. I have tried some dark forest compositions with wood peckers but just now I want something lighter more of an abstraction as Matisse did. I love the blue birds nesting in our yard and the way they flutter as they fly. I borrow from Matisse and his blue nude series. I could keep playing and changing my configuration of paintings everytime I come back from a painting adventure and pass through this doorway.
