Day Dream Painting: "Granny's Correspondence"

Acrylic on stretched canvas museum wrap painted around the edges, 12" square, 1 1/2" deep, $150. Ready for delivery after May 31st. To purchase please e-mail me.

"Granny's Correspondence" is my dream of keeping in touch with my children and grandchildren from places near and far as my husband and I travel. I will use both traditional letters and new tech CD's.
I like this series enough to self publish it as a book for my grandchildren. It is done in memory of my grandfather Emile Widler who said "The last years of life can be the best years." And I am going to make it so.

What gorgeous use of color, I love this painting! I wish I could afford it. [Sigh] How were you able to paint the pinkish-purple without it smudging into the underpainting. I know, dumb question. It's just that I really don't know. Did you have to let your underpainting dry before you added the purple? Someday I hope to be able to take painting lesson. This painting is so nice!

Anonymous,
This painting was painted in one step without layering of colors. I mixed heavy body titanium white with fluid acrylic primary magenta in a little color pot before applying it to a white canvas prepared with gesso. I didn't use any purple in mixing. But the way the camera saw my colors is strange. With these bright colors I usually get some shifts in color in photographs.
Since you love bright color I would suggest the videos of Skip Lawrence and Christopher Schink. I have not taken a workshop but I have seen them demonstrate. They are aavailable through cheapjoes.

I love this series, Diane. They already looked to me like perfect book illustrations! I see you were already thinking in that direction.

Thank you for your reply! After I saw this painting I looked at others - I was just so impressed! There are a couple more I fell in love with. I can't remember the name of them right now, but the gardening painting and the self-portrait of you painting painting which I think was just before the gardening painting. I don't suppose you'd be willing to trade artwork - not mine! [shudder!] but that of a listed artist. I have several works by listed artist Chris Ritter, Maine artist, (1908-1976) if you are interested. (Please email me if you are willing to consider this ncsd@worldpath.net)
I will look up the videos you recommended at Cheap Joe's. I also like the cradle boards they carry that you use.
I'm sorry. I'm having a problem trying to use the comment feature. There is no word verification thing - just a box with an x in it. I did try the "contact" thing which I thought was a link to email, but it brought up your picture is all. I'm pretty new to blogging and still don't know how to use all its features, so it's probably something I'm doing wrong. I love your blog and your paintings(!); I looked for a little box where I could subscribe to your blog but didn't find one. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to post this comment as there is no word verify thing showing up, just the x in the box. Oh - okay, somehow I just got the word verify thing to show up.
